Sonic Ranch Sessions – Update 2

Today, we’ll be leaving the Sonic Ranch. Overall, it was a great experience being able to record at such a state of the art residential studio. A big thanks goes out to all that were involved with recording the album these past couple weeks! Our videographer will continue to release exclusive studio footage as we approach the official release this Fall. Stay tuned!

Next stop, Savannah… then were off to play a show at The Boathouse in Myrtle Beach, SC this Sunday. Time to add some serious mileage to the van this weekend!

Sonic Ranch Sessions – Update 1

It’s been about a week since arriving at The Sonic Ranch. This place provides the perfect environment for recording musicians along with superior hospitality from their staff. The Sonic Ranch is legit! Click here to view my photos of the complex.

The first day was spent setting up Nick’s drums. He then proceeded to track ALL of the drums the next day. Well done, Nick!

Will has been laying down his bass tracks while Ted has been laying down guitar & vocal tracks. Usually, the keyboards are the last item to track. However, we have limited access to the ‘A Studio,’ which has the Hammond B3 organ that I plan on using for 9 songs. I managed to track organ for 5 songs last Sunday and will be back at it again later this evening. Nothing compares to the real sound of a B3 running through a Leslie rotary speaker.

As mentioned in a previous post, we brought along a professional photographer to document our studio sessions. You may click here to see the photos Joel has taken thus far. He also has been filming us every day and posting video updates to his Vimeo page. Click here to watch past video updates from the last week. Please note that the video files are filmed in HD, so they may take a while to load.

Off to the Sonic Ranch!

Tomorrow, we leave for Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, TX to record the new album. The last album, Everyone on Everynight, was recorded at Sonic Ranch’s Adobe Studio. This time, we’re tracking in their Neve Studio, also known as the “big room.” We will be spending 16 days at this state of the art residential recording studio with Paul Leary behind the mixing boards. Paul Leary has produced for artists such as Sublime, Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, & The Expendables, so we are definitely excited to be working with him. He just recently finished producing the new Sublime w/ Rome album that’s set to release this summer.

Our friend, Joel Pearish, will be joining us in the studio to document our experiences in HD. Stay tuned for video updates throughout our time at the Sonic Ranch.
